The Savannah Morning News “Do Savannah” has published a great preview in today’s paper of the West Side Block Party.

Some highlights:

“In more ways than one, these artists left a powerful impression on our young authors,” [Block by Block director Keith] Miller said. “But the artists also emerged touched and inspired by the work of our young writers, who used these moments of art-making to create compelling works of art, while seeing their community — including themselves — in new ways.”

Miller wants the narrative surrounding Savannah’s youth to change.

“There’s usually one message being constantly told in a number of ways about Savannah’s youth, particularly young people of color: that they are a problem that needs to be fixed, corrected. But we couldn’t disagree more.”
