Deep’s Youth Programs offer safe and dynamic spaces where young people can develop as writers, storytellers, and leaders. Rooted in Deep’s mission to close opportunity gaps and amplify youth voice, these programs cultivate literacy not only as a skill but as a tool for self-determination and community change. Whether through poetry, storytelling, or visual art, young people are encouraged to explore their identities, share their lived experiences, and imagine new possibilities for their futures. By pairing creative expression with mentorship, publication, and public performance, Deep ensures that youth voices are not only nurtured but also heard, valued, and positioned to shape the narrative of our community.

  1. Block by Block – Youth use creative writing as a tool for civic leadership, community storytelling, and collective action.
  2. Young Author Project (YAP) – Supports emerging authors in drafting, revising, and publishing original works that reflect their voices and experiences.

  3. Deep Flows Slam Team – Provides spoken word artists with a stage to amplify their voices, share their truth, and connect with audiences through performance.

  4. Drop-in Workshops – Flexible, low-barrier spaces where youth can practice writing, experiment with ideas, and build confidence at their own pace.

  5. ART – Integrates visual and multimedia arts with writing, helping youth expand the ways they tell stories and express themselves.

  6. Phoenix Initiative – The Phoenix Initiative is a program that cultivates voice, agency, and resilience among system-impacted youth through a restorative, trauma-informed, and justice-centered lens.

Together, these programs equip young people with the tools to express themselves authentically, build confidence, and influence the world around them.
