Deep Center was founded by educators and has always worked in partnership with local public schools. We believe that strong school communities are built and sustained through a myriad of daily moments of connection in which someone is seen, valued, and supported to thrive.
We envision schools that are rich in
Belonging. Trust. Accountability. Equity. Well-Being. Growth.
Policies, curriculum, and resources provide the bones, but at the heart of the matter are the people. We started working with educators in 2018, after hearing that far too often our young people were experiencing exclusion, isolation, and shame at school.
Our work with schools is grounded in our commitment to creating a more just and equitable Savannah for young people and their village. It also values educators as part of that village, honoring their expertise, lived experiences, and recognizing their power to actively shape – and be shaped by – school culture. Teachers are not separate from the community that Deep serves and seeks to uplift, they are part of it.
We believe meaningful transformation happens through sustained, collaborative efforts, while also recognizing the need for responsive, actionable support in the present. For that reason, our work with schools and educators is multi-pronged.
Healing Schools Initiative
We work alongside schools to provide customizable tools, workshops, and implementation support that strengthen school culture and educational outcomes.
The goals of the Healing Schools Initiative are to support:
- Shifts away from reliance on punitive discipline measures toward more proactive, relationship-centered approaches to accountability that keep students connected to learning
- Teaching and learning communities with high degrees of trust, belonging, and respect

Educator Collaboratives and National Writing Project Site
In addition to our in-school partnerships, we also provide services for individual educators: providing resources to support classroom practices and bringing educators together to learn, design, and grow in the community. Click here to learn more about our workshops and events for local educators.
The National Writing Project (NWP) is a nationwide network dedicated to improving the teaching of writing and learning in schools. For nearly five decades, NWP has supported educators through teacher-led professional learning communities grounded in inquiry, collaboration, and classroom practice.
Deep Center is honored to be the first National Writing Project site based in a community organization. Our site continues the NWP tradition in Savannah, connecting local educators to a national network while remaining deeply rooted in the needs and experiences of local schools and communities.
