Applications to join the Writing Project are typically open in mid-March.  You can email megan@deepcenter.org for more information at any time.

Deep Center’s Writing Project is made up of two annual components:

  • A two-week intensive Summer Institute, held in early July (M-F, 9 am – 4:30 pm). Our days are robust, with time for writing, conversation, and plenty of breaks. All materials are provided.
  • An independent (or collaborative) Social Action Project, undertaken across August-October.  Fellows take a question, concept, or idea from the Summer Institute and carry out a project to explore it within their teaching context, then share their project at  Deep Center’s Unconference.

Deep Center’s Writing Project is entirely free of charge.  To support equitable access to the program, all educators accepted into the Deep Writing Project cohort who successfully complete it will receive a stipend totaling up to $ 1,500.

Once an educator goes through the Deep Writing Project, they become part of our alumni network and are invited to stay engaged with Deep Center staff and offerings.

Who is the Deep Writing Project For?

This program is open to Savannah-area K-12 teachers, university professors, and community-based educators. You do NOT have to be an ELA teacher to join. In fact, you don’t even need to be a traditional classroom teacher—you might be an instructional coach, administrator, or other support staff.

Even if you don’t identify as a writer (yet), Deep Writing Project is the place to collaborate with educators who are using writing to teach, lead, and advocate in powerful ways across all content areas.

What does being part of the Deep Writing Project entail?

More details about the exact time commitments and the program schedule can be found in the current application.
