Austin Rojas, MA, joined Deep Center in 2026 as a Community Organizer, bringing a deep commitment to public service, community advocacy, and people-centered change.

Austin’s work in Savannah has been rooted in relationship-building and grassroots engagement. After serving as a Community Engagement and Development VISTA at United Way of the Coastal Empire, he advanced to the Community Collaborative Coordinator role at Step Up Savannah. In these positions, Austin gained a comprehensive understanding of the Savannah-Chatham County nonprofit landscape, cultivated cross-sector partnerships, and conducted research on issues directly impacting his community, including challenges he and his neighbors experience firsthand.

In 2023, Austin pursued his passion for history and public education as Tour Director for Savannah on Wheels, where he led immersive bicycle tours of the city while sharpening his public speaking and storytelling skills. Alongside his professional work, Austin played an active role in local civic engagement, helping manage a campaign for County Commissioner and volunteering as an organizer on issue-based campaigns focused on housing justice, international solidarity, and workers’ rights.

A lifelong love of history and humanity continues to anchor Austin to his Rhode Island roots, even as he builds community in his adopted hometown of Savannah. He earned a Master’s degree in History and Underwater Archaeology from the University of Rhode Island in 2020 before relocating to Savannah to pursue a career in public service, motivated by the widespread inequities laid bare by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2024, Austin deepened his commitment to advocacy by enrolling in Northeastern University’s part-time Juris Doctor program. His decision to pursue law reflects a sustained passion for justice, equity, and collective care values that naturally led him to Deep Center. Long impressed by Deep’s leadership and impact, Austin considers it both a personal and professional honor to contribute to the organization’s mission.

When he isn’t working or studying, Austin can be found reading B. Traven, catching a film, or, true to form, making good trouble somewhere in the community.
