Deep Center stands in solidarity with our Savannah community, with our Southern community, and with those all over the nation who say not one more. We stand in solidarity to protest injustice and the brutal, senseless killings of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Tony McDade, Sandra Bland,  Freddie Grey, Matthew Ajibade, Aiyana Stanley-Jones, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, Michael Brown, and far too many others whose lives have been taken.

Saying their names is not enough. We demand an end to the injustice now.

We offer our full-throated support as we say unequivocally that Black Lives Matter. Black dreams matter. Black futures matter. Black healing matters.

We redouble our commitment to our mission to amplify the voices of marginalized people—including black youth and their families. Condemnation and outrage are a start, but they are not enough. We must do all we can to end anti-black racism, including through examining individual behavior, creating spaces for joy and love and healing, through systems-change work in policy and legislation, and through uplifting our youth.

“The changes we have to have in this country are going to be for liberation of all people—because nobody’s free until everybody’s free.”
