Become a Writing Fellow

Want to be a writing fellow? Apply here!

Deep’s writing fellows are a fun, vibrant community of writers who give Savannah’s young people the skill, bravery, and passion to write and share their stories. Outside of our workshops, they support each other as mentors, writers, and friends. Our community members come from diverse backgrounds—authors, poets, aspiring and professional writers, journalists, college professors, graduate students, select undergraduate students, teachers, retired teachers, business professionals, creative professionals, and other literature-lovers—but must possess these very important qualities:

  • A personal identity as a creative writer (fiction writer, poet, journalist, literary essayist, etc.)
  • A sincere appreciation for the craft of writing and reading
  • An insatiable curiosity and a love of learning
  • A desire to share that love of writing and learning with others

Be a Teaching Artist

Deep’s teaching artists are a community of artists, musicians, and creatives who work with Savannah’s young people. Teaching artists work with youth in Block by Block, our creative programming for high school youth, ages 14-17 and Drop-In, our creative program specifically designed for systems-involved youth (court-involved, involvement in the foster-system, justice-involved, or any other touchpoint with a child-serving institution).

To become a teaching artists with Block by Block, email crystal@deepcenter.org

Drop-In teaching artists currently work at the City of Savannah PARC Center, The Front Porch, Park Place Outreach, Gateway Clubhouse and the Youth Detention Center.

To become a teaching artist with Drop-In, contact marisa@deepcenter.org. Note: Teaching-artists in Drop-In will be required to participate in training around trauma-informed practices.
